I love you, Dad

May 16th, 2017

My Mom and Dad

My Dad was born on the living room floor of a slum apartment.
He started smoking when he was 5.
He quit school when he was 13.
He joined the Marine Corps when he was 17.

He was the toughest man I’ve ever known.
He was the greatest man I’ve ever known.
He was my best friend, even though he didn’t know it.

Every day I try to be more like him.
And every day I fail.

I try to hide my emotions,
but, even if I wanted to,
I can’t adequately express my pain.

I feel so, so alone.
I love you so much, Dad.

Rest in Peace, Kelly

Kelly Ann Gibbins Vardamaskos
7/7/1963 – 3/30/2017

My little sister was the nicest, most generous person I’ve ever known. Her loss has put a hole in my soul that will never heal.

Probably like everyone who loved her, I prayed every day and asked God to take away her pain and give it to me, for I am better able to shoulder the load.

God answered my prayers. Thank you, God.

But, truth be told, I am really, really struggling with my share of the burden.

I love you so much, Kelly.
